Upcoming Zoom call & revving the engine of our creative community
Two easy ways to join in on our fun!
Hi love,
Thanks so much to those of you who participated in OUR POLL. The results are in— you like our writing (yeah!) and you’re looking for creative community (yessss!). This week we’re focusing on the latter with two fun, community-focused announcements.
Mark your calendars. Our first live, community Zoom room is happening on Thursday, May 29th at 9 am PST/12 pm EST.
We’re set to gather for an inspiring chat about mid-life creativity. We’ve earmarked an hour, and we’d love it if you come with questions, curiosity, and a dash of courage, just in case you want to introduce yourself.
To note: This chat is for paid subscribers only, who will receive the call link via email. If you’re wondering how to become a paid subscriber, click the button below, sign up, and you’ll have access to all of our quarterly chats.
Get ready to write— even if you don’t know what you’re doing . . . cuz most of the time, we don’t either. But what we do know is that being in community involves experiencing things together.
We’ve been discussing what it would be like to write something as a group. This might be a disaster, but let’s give it a try. No matter what, it will be worth a giggle.
Here’s how this will go:
For the last few weeks, we’ve been playing with beginnings. So we’re going to start with a fresh first line in the comments— A.K.A. a story start. Your mission, if you choose to accept it, is to keep the story going by adding a next line based on the one that came before yours. For example, if you’re the first person in, you’ll be writing the line after ours. If you’re the ninth person in, you’ll be writing the line after the eighth person. And so on. Only read the line before yours (you can go back and read the whole story after you’ve added your line).
If you are reading this from your email inbox, the only way to make this work is to come over to our community space by clicking on the “comment bubble” button near the top left of your email (here’s a handy-dandy graphic):
From there, you’ll read the top comment and add your line of writing (here’s another handy-dandy graphic):
Enjoy. The only rule we have is to not take this too seriously. This is a community-building exercise, not an MFA in creative writing. Pop over now, to read Steph & Maia’s story start.
Can’t wait to meet you at the end of this month, and see you in the comments today.
Syd wiped his brow with a filthy handkerchief. Nyssa rolled her eyes. How did she end up here? Her instincts were usually more on point.
"What will it be?" the bartender asked.
"Directions to the subway?" Nyssa said hopefully.
"Not sure that's best, love. Have you heard about...."
